Here are some highlights of a recent interview that Dave Scherer of 1wrestling conducted with Eric Bischoff
It can't be business as usual in WCW anymore. Bischoff said WCW has got to do things differently. A lot of things that worked when Nitro was originally launched won't work anymore because the business has changed.
He's going to be running the wrestling side of WCW. He's not interested in
fighting battles on every level anymore.
Vince Russo brings a lot to the table that he doesn't have. He made it
clear to Brad Siegel that he doesn't want to be anyone's actual boss this time around. He just wants to contribute. His experience with Vince has been entirely collaborative.
Vince will handle the day to day production of the television shows and will deal with the talent and front-line issues as opposed to Eric's job which will be to provide an overview. Vince's perspective will be micro while Eric's will be macro.
He'll be on hand for the Nitros, the Thunders, and the pay-per-views, but his plate won't be as full. Previously, he was trying to do too much including things he wasn't good at and it sucked the life out of him.
The total wrestling audience for Monday night has been stuck at 8 or 9 ratings points for some time. At first, WCW was getting 4s and 5s and the WWF 3s, then they were both getting 4s, and now the WWF has pulled ahead to the point where they get 6s and WCW gets 3s or lower. The first priority for WCW will be to reclaim its market share of the existing audience. After that, you can go out and try to bring new viewers aboard for both shows.
