I absolutely hate rushing myself, but today I've gotta' speed things up as I'm running a bit late. I apologize beforehand if you catch any errors or mistakes, as I do have quite a bit of news to get by in only a short amount of time. I guess those keyboarding classes in seventh grade paid off, eh? Anyway, before I get into the news, don't forget to catch Smackdown tonight because the show will feature quite a surprise... Also, before I forget, please check out **TheWrestlingWire today, as we are putting together all the WWF Diva photo galleries that we've collected over the past three days, as well as added more video's and pictures you do NOT want to miss. Enjoy the Update...
For starters, I want to clear up a big rumor I've seen floating around the net. Apparently, what I've read shows that the WWF might just be generous to their new pals, ECW, once again; this time loaning over The Dudley Boyz for this Saturday's TNN Taping. That rumor has no truth whatsoever to it, as ever since WWF let ECW borrow Tazz to clear up their World Title problem, rumors have been flying out the wazoo. Basically, as I've said, "No," the Dudley's will *not* be in Poughkeepsie for the TNN Taping, this upcoming Saturday night.
Speaking of rumors, I've got another one here fresh of the wire, as this one does have a little more truth to it. WWF's former tag-team champs, The Headbangers, may very well be on the way out of The 'Federation before you know it. Both Mosh and Thrasher's contracts run out early this summer, and if they aren't fired, they definitely will not have their contracts renewed. It's not like the two are in the doghouse for being injury-prone, but more of their attitudes towards staff, such as complaining to the WWF Creative Team, as well as Vince, about their current angles, who they aren't getting along with, etc. For other reasons, Mark Henry and Gangrel are also being looked at very closely. [Regarding their position with the WWF.]
If you haven't already heard this one, it does appear as if the reason Disco Inferno is off WCW television as of late is simply because he was too buried in the angle with The Mamalukes, and had nowhere to be placed. Now, it's being talked about that Disco could be given a gimmick [as well as a new name] similar to the persona of Vince Russo, while more of a "hitman" type of moniker. It's about damn time they kill the disco gimmick...
Word out of the independent scene shows that former WWF wrestler, "Gillberg," is dropping that very title to his name. Many promoters were told that if they asked for "Gillberg," all they'd get was Duane Gill. Duane has made it clear he wants to leave behind that ridiculous gimmick, however, some say that if the WWF ever needs him again, "Gillberg" will return... Until then, he's just plain-old Mr. Duane Gill.
Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer newsletter was able to scrap up this week's television personality winners and losers. Below, I've truncated the lists a bit, and they are quite different from last week's:
::Winners::
Shane McMahon + 609,500
Vince McMahon + 580,500
Stephanie McMahon + 545,700
HHH + 464,400
Big Show + 406,400 [Big Show, although that # is high, dropped quite significantly ever since turning face.]
Lex Luger +253,100
Chris Benoit +232,200 [The main-event on RAW did those numbers for him, no contest.]
::Losers::
Godfather -348,300 [If WWF wants ratings out of this guy, they really need to bring back Papa Shango... don't you agree?]
Norman Smiley -278,600
Mae Young -116,100
f you've been locked in the basement for the past three weeks, then you're one of the few who still hasn't recognized Sid's sudden downfall from his recent push. Basically, Sid "Viscious," real name Sid Eudy, is telling WCW Management that he doesn't just want to be another "WCW personality," as, like any other former World Champion, he wants his push back. Another complaint coming from the big guy looks to be squared directly at Eric Bischoff from his "scissors" comment on the "New Era" Nitro, as that was obviously a cheap shot from his early days with WCW and that whole thing with Arn Anderson.
Speaking of being upset, let's talk about the WCW fans after watching "Thunder" last night. We've got a new world champion, unfortunately, and that being around the waist of actor David Arquette. In all actuality, the WCW World Title is going nowhere but downhill, considering that half of the most recent champions didn't even want the belt, nevertheless caring about it. For example, we've got Jeff Jarrett, who thought it'd be a bad move to put it on his waist, which he was exactly right about. Most would agree, if WCW wants credibility back on that title, they need to put it on Scott Steiner or Sting, fast...
Finally, I'm closing off the Update with some news on the contract status' on four of Pro Wrestling's premier wrestlers... Chris Candido, Lance Storm, Sabu, & Vampiro...
* Chris Candido, along with his wife Tammy Sytch, are both working on a pay-per-deal with WCW, as no contract offer has come up yet. This is very odd, considering an offer could come from anywhere at any moment, while Candido holds the WCW Cruiserweight belt.
*WCW's Vampiro posted a message earlier on today that said he did in fact ask for that release from WCW, as well as saying he was so frustrated, he may actually quit wrestling altogether. Interesting enough, only hours later, Vampiro posted an apology for that message, saying it was rude and uncalled for. However, his want for leaving WCW is still strong, and he's still asking for that release.
*Although Shane Douglas and Chris Candido may share the XPW spotlight at the moment, Pro Wrestling's genocidal Sabu is about to take over that rank very quickly. Sabu made his XPW debut at a show last weekend, in which he's looking to sign a "six-figure" deal with them very soon. Shane Douglas is still pulling strings to have him wind up in WCW, but that doesn't seem to be going too well.
*Lance Storm, despite all the rumors going on, is still with ECW, however out of his old contract and into a 30-day "revised" contract. He's still negotiating with ECW about a new contract, however, offers from WCW have apparently been much higher, so only time will tell on his young star. Although this is hardly proof, Lance did removed all ECW-related material [including links to ECW's website] from his website, StormWrestling.com, similar to what Chris Jericho did just before he left WCW to sign with WWF.
