Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer newsletter that the preliminary estimates on the buy rate for Wrestlemania are that it did approximately 875,000 buys which would be a 2.35 buy rate. Meltzer said that it would be the largest non-boxing pay-per-view as far as orders in history if the buy rate holds up. He said the old record was last year's Wrestlemania at 800,000 buys. Dave Meltzer reported the details of the screwed up finish that occurred at Wrestlemania in the hardcore battle royal in this week's Wrestling Observer newsletter. Meltzer said that the match was supposed to have a finish where Hardcore Holly would break a candy jar over Crash's head and cover him for the pin. At the count of two, Meltzer said the time was supposed to run out. This would have left Crash retaining the title. Meltzer said Hardcore was a little early breaking the jar and going for the pin. Meltzer said Crash had no way of seeing the time and didn't kick out because he wasn't supposed to. Meltzer said referee Tim White counted one and two. He was bringing his had down for three waiting for the bell to ring. The bell didn't ring. Meltzer said White never actually hit the mat as Tazz was blocking him (or White may have used this fact as an excuse to try to explain the ending). Meltzer said Jim Ross tried to make sense of the situation by announcing that Crash had rolled his shoulder which he hadn't done. Meltzer said people backstage thought that White actually did count three before the bell rang and felt that Hardcore had to be announced as the winner for credibility.
