ECW News: Latest on Mike Awesome, Sabu, Johnny Smith, and more
- Management is said to be open towards using Johnny Smith in between Japan bookings, but he isn't scheduled for any shows.
- There was a recent rumor floating around that Sabu attempted to lure Mike Awesome to WCW as a tag-team partner. It is said that the rumor is untrue, but either way, Awesome is under a three-year contract with ECW. Now, it is said that Mike Awesome has indeed signed a deal with WCW and may be on Monday's Nitro, which, if true, would be a breach of contract. More on this story as it develops.
- Management is said to be thrilled with the growth of the ECW web site, which is now averaging 500,000 impressions per day.
- Last weekend's ECW show from the Boathouse in Norfolk, Virginia is expected to be the last. ECW management is checking out other venues in the area and only booked the latest show so that they were able to run two shows in the house show swing.
- Among the restrictions the Westchester Civic Center has on ECW are that no profane crowd chants are allowed, no blood shed, no foul language from wrestlers, and that women shouldn't be "so scantily clad." ECW is still open about returning to the venue, but not with the restrictions in place.
